Address Verification Services (AVS) Checking

AVS stands for Address Verification Service. This service checks to see if a billing address or ZIP Code matches that of the credit card being processed.

Transactions can be downgraded if an AVS check is not performed on at least the ZIP/Postal Code. The fact that the check is performed is all that is required to prevent a downgrade. Although VISA, MasterCard, or your merchant account provider can always change the rules. Today, even if the transaction fails an AVS check, your transaction will not be downgraded resulting in higher fees because a check was at least performed.

Rerun performs an AVS check on the customer's billing ZIP Code or the optional Credit Card ZIP field. However, Rerun is set not to decline your transaction if it fails an AVS check. The check is done in the background, and the results are not displayed.

The billing address of your customers should be complete in Rerun, and the billing address should include the ZIP/Postal Code.
